FMCSA Moratorium on Microsoft Windows Vista
Microsoft has begun releasing its new Windows Vista operating system to a limited
audience, and it will become a public release at the end of January. Our early testing
has shown that most FMCSA distributed software releases are not compatible with
Windows Vista. At this point, we strongly recommend that users not upgrade to Microsoft
Windows Vista.
In fact, the Department of Transportation Chief Information Officer has declared
a moratorium on Microsoft Windows Vista. This software application is not to be
installed on FMCSA desktop or laptop computers.
We have tested the following software:
- Aspen 2.8.1
- ISS 2.11
- PIQ 2.8
- ProVu 3.1.1
- CAPRI 6.5
- SAFETYNET 3.3 (client installations only)
Of the software listed above, SAFETYNET was the only package to run properly under
Windows Vista. Note that this was only the local client and remote client installations
of SAFETYNET, not the server application.
As we continue our testing, we encourage users not to upgrade to Windows Vista.
Additionally, if procuring new hardware, we recommend you select Windows XP service
pack 2.
